The White Whale

The White Whale

Discovering this magnificent creature after a dream, I thought it fitting that he be immortalised as a painting. Before my dream, I had no idea who Migaloo was. Turns out, he is a famous white whale that cruises the Eastern Sea.

Migaloo came to me in a dream to share his story. As one of the oldest creatures, whales are a symbol of wisdom and knowledge. They’re also known for their incredible method of communication: singing.

His white colour is what makes him even more special; he is different from his own species.

Being different can sometimes be difficult; we are misunderstood and pushed away because we don’t fit in and don’t see things the same or look the same as the groups around us. But being different is something to embrace and be proud of, not to be ashamed of. Shine your unique, glorious goodness because that is what makes you amazing.

My daughter gave me a quote for my birthday that said: ‘The voice of reason is worse than the voice of passion. The passionless don’t change history.’ I cherish this quote because it reminds me to keep being different and full of passion for what I do. Just being me is okay.

Migaloo cruises the ocean with a sense of peace and tranquillity, gathering admirers and other creatures along the way to swim with him. His sense of self shines; he is a vision of hope, with his white skin illuminated against the deep blue sea. He is a shiny beacon of light.

His friends, the turtles, are a reminder of gratitude. Being grateful for one thing a day can build into a lifetime of gratitude which in turn creates happiness. Turtles are known to cruise with the currents, slowly and gracefully. It’s okay to go with the flow. When we do, we’ll see what’s going on around us and appreciate everything so much more.

Flying fish are in this piece to represent our deep emotional connections. Sometimes, without words, we just feel and don’t understand why. These fish remind us that being emotionally connected deepens our relationships and keeps our heart warm.
The little pink birds fly freely under the sea to remind us that life is about experiencing it all. With an open heart, mind and wings we can fly anywhere.
