An inspiring woman named Kim came to visit me one day to ask if I would paint something that reflected the philosophy of a social movement she and her husband, Mike, were creating.
The movement is called Thankful. Kim wasn’t sure exactly what she wanted, but loved my work and knew I would create something special. She asked me to paint the meaning of Thankful. I sat with it for a while trying to truly understand the purpose of their project; it was a positive message aiming to reach people from all walks of life.
Suddenly, it happened. I visualised a strong, beautiful tree, full of life, love, acceptance and understanding: The Thankful Tree.
No matter who you are or where you’re from, you can unite under the tree to give thanks. This is how I saw Project Thankful. A group of people sharing what they’re thankful for to find happiness.
After I painted The Thankful Tree, Kim and Mike were so inspired they created a three-dimensional version of the tree. It’s now erected all over the world, bringing people together in communities, schools, events, festivals and businesses.
Sharing what you're thankful for creates a powerful force of gratitude that can change how you view the world.
You can be thankful for a smile from a stranger or a big life-changing event. Whatever it is, your gratitude creates happiness.
