Sister

Sister

The young family behind this painting had endured immense suffering. Yet, through their struggles, they discovered incredible strength. They asked me to create a piece inspired by their two daughters.

These two sisters share an unbreakable bond, having learned to navigate an incredibly frustrating illness together. Through their hardships, they became best friends. And so, Sister was painted.

What inspired me most about this family was their ability to see the beauty in life rather than succumb to despair. I wanted to portray the sisters as a source of unwavering support for one another. No matter what challenges they face, they continue to find positivity and joy.

Sister is filled with meaningful elements. The turtles are painted hot pink, reflecting the girls’ passionate, fun-loving nature. They transport them to their happy place, helping them appreciate the beauty of what they have.

The red robins have been sent by the universe to remind them that life is about embracing the present—finding joy in what they have here and now, rather than longing for what they don’t. These birds taste the nectar of life, celebrating the bliss of the moment.

The orange flying fish symbolise the abundance in their lives—not in a material sense, but an abundance of love, creativity, friendship, and family.

Sister represents the sisterhood we all experience. This special bond can be shared with a best friend, mother, daughter, aunt, or grandmother. All women are sisters—we lift each other up, share in laughter and tears, lighten each other’s burdens, or simply sit in silence, gazing at hot pink turtles.

Sisterhood is a blessing that should never be taken for granted.
