Whale in the Sky

Whale in the Sky

I was inspired to paint Whale in the Sky after I experienced loss and upheaval. I was struggling to come to terms with the change happening in my life, and was feeling a little defeated. I wanted this painting to reflect the opposite of what I was going through. It's here to not only lift my spirits but to lift yours too, when you see it sparkling on the wall.

It’s a tale of discovery, joy and following your own flow.

This magnificent beast is doing what he does best: being himself. If you ever doubt your passion or purpose, and struggle to listen to your inner voice, make sure you stop and ask yourself, what’s stopping you from being yourself and doing what you love? This whale is here to remind you that life will throw all sorts of challenges at you. You’ll get through them if you just keep going and stay true to who you are.

In the painting, it’s a starry night. The Milky Way is shining with sequins and gold. Stars represent memories, adventure, life, love and growth. They sparkle to remind us where we have come from and where we are yet to go.

The whale is surrounded by vibrant friends and family who join him on his journey. The parrots are symbol of frivolity, love of life. They bring a special magic to the group, as they seek humour, laughter and love. They’re also a reminder to only ever fly with the ones you trust.

The butterflies, of course, symbolise metamorphosis. They remind us to grow with change and be brave through challenging moments. Life can throw you curveballs that can uproot your whole life. All you can do is flow and trust that it’s happening for a good reason.

The awesome flying turtles are a source of inspiration. Life is an incredible gift and finding moments of gratitude can help give us perspective. Kookaburras are also flying in, representing friends who become family. We have close bonds with these people and we stick together through times of uncertainty.

Flying fish symbolise our emotions. They help you keep on the right track and get the most out of life. Finally, there is a tiny hummingbird who leads this colourful flight across the starry sky. This little creature is a symbol of joy and tasting the nectar of life. What are they flying towards? Happiness.
