In Angel Fish, I wanted to portray perspective and the mindset we create for ourselves. If you can tweak your perspective just a bit, you can open up a whole new world.
When you look at this painting, do you see the angel fish swimming in an ocean or do you see them swimming in a tank? Considering things from different perspectives can help keep your mind open.
I know what I see in this painting: a vast, open ocean full of opportunities for everyone. We’re all part of this ocean, riding waves, swimming with the currents. Millions of treasures are just waiting to be found.
If you lock your mind into a small fish tank, you’ll struggle to progress. So don’t get stuck. Open your mind and you’ll find there is so much more to explore.
This painting hung in my studio for quite a while, I was unsure who the rightful owner was. That was until I was invited to be interviewed by the talented Rebecca Judd on Channel 9’s Postcards. Bec visited my studio to talk to me about my artwork. That weekend, the show aired with top ratings, and my work was seen across Australia.
The day my episode hit TV, I received a phone call from a delightful and quietly spoken couple. They’d seen Angel Fish on the program and fallen in love with it. The next day, they came and bought the painting. I helped them hang it in their home.
This painting now looks out at an incredible ocean view. It was all meant to be.
