Woman, Land and Sea

Woman, Land and Sea

Introducing the ninth painting in my Women of Influence series: ‘Woman, Land and Sea.’

I’m hoping to complete this series with eleven paintings, each one telling its own story of life, strength, and womanhood.

This particular piece is about harmony and balance between two seemingly opposing landscapes and a woman who finds herself caught between them. Where does she truly belong?

The land and the sea rely on each other to survive. Our ecosystems are designed to thrive together. They can’t exist in isolation. It’s the same with animals. Many have symbiotic relationships, depending on one another to flourish in their natural habitats. That’s nature’s magic.

So why do we, as humans, find it so difficult to do the same?

We battle and condemn. We find hate where there should be love, judgement where there should be understanding, and division where there should be connection.
Woman, Land and Sea is a reminder to pause, acknowledge, and accept our differences. To live in harmony with one another. Whether it’s with friends, family, neighbours, or members of our broader community, choosing love and acceptance helps us all thrive.

In this painting, you’ll find a few distinct creatures: an owl, a kookaburra, a butterfly, and a dragonfly. All different, all unique yet living in harmony between land and sea. Each brings its own insight, knowledge, and spirit.

There are also fish, which represent our emotions and life’s complexities. We can choose to stay in the shallows, or dive deep. They remind us that both are okay.

Turtles symbolise wisdom and the importance of slowing down. Finding joy in stillness.
The pink galahs bring laughter and lightness, flying together, connected by joy and companionship.

At the heart of it all, a woman walks through both landscapes. Her hair flows like the ocean, her body rooted like the land. She acknowledges that life is full of difference and that to live in true harmony, we must find peace in that.

To thrive, we must accept each other as we are. Live with a true heart. And stand firmly in our own strength.
