She is sister to Princess and the Tui Birds, Woman with Sapphire Eyes, Woman with Lotus Flowers, The Butterfly Woman, and Three Baby Birds—all part of my series, Women of Influence.
These paintings depict the differences that define us as women – our cultural beliefs, our individual journeys, and the deep bond of sisterhood. A connection we should cherish. Each one guides us through nature, reminding us to stay connected to ourselves and the world around us.
Woman with White Peacock Feathers serves as a reminder of our inner well-being, mind, body, and spirit. She is inspired by Shamanic philosophy, which, across many cultures, embraces spiritual healers, doctors, and prophets. Individuals who connect to a higher realm to help heal the body through the spirit.
I deeply believe in healing – calming the mind first so the body can follow. I know all too well how mental health, stress, and negative thought patterns can impact our physical well-being. Finding peace in turmoil is difficult, but not impossible. I know this because it is something I have endured and overcome over the years, and something I continue to work on daily to free myself from negative influences and mindsets. I feel that this painting emerged from the sensitivities I am constantly navigating in life.
I hope she brings you the same sense of calm, a quiet spirit, and an abundance of life and growth through the native blossoms that surround her.
The red flying fish symbolise passion and depth, reminding you to dive as deep as you can to discover more about yourself.
The three sparkling turtles represent gratitude, a daily practice that is invaluable to our mental well-being.
The blue butterflies are seen in some cultures as a connection to a higher power and a symbol of protection. During uncertain times, the sight of a blue butterfly serves as reassurance that you are on the right path.
When I first started this piece, a butterfly passed away and came to rest directly in front of this canvas on my easel. As butterflies decompose, their wings turn to a fine, silky dust. I gathered the dust and mixed it into the blue paint for each butterfly – a tribute to a life once lived, and a reminder to live yours in a way that is true to you.
In the top right-hand corner, a white cockatoo represents the spirit realm and the purity of finding a connection to your heart.
The white peacock feathers adorn her hair and fall freely around her, guiding her through healing. They serve as a shield for the soul and spirit, reminding us to seek peace and calm.
